And if you get the sudden urge for alpine air, you can travel from your home in Fort Macleod to Castle Mountain, Waterton, or the Crowsnest Pass in less than an hour, or Fernie Snow Valley in under two.

Whether you’re looking for a cheap movie night, a pottery class, or an instructor lead paint night, you’ll find the arts are very much alive and well in Fort Macleod. Fort Macleod’s Historic Main Street is thriving, with coffee shops, restaurants, and bars, including an exceptional Dutch bakery and micro-brewery (fall 2018). Education & Family Support
Calling Fort Macleod home is a great choice for young families. Numerous services and community groups offer up a multitude of options for keeping your pre-schoolers happy, healthy, entertained and educated all week long, at the Fort Macleod Library, through FCSS, and through the ground-breaking, award winning, brand new, $1.5m facility, the Kids First Family Centre (video).  

Fort Macleod has two schools, AB Daley (K‑6) and F P Walshe (grades 7‑12). Both schools were completely refurbished in 2016 and 2017. Continuing academic pursuits after high school is a carpool commutable option, with the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College only half an hour away from your home in Fort Macleod.

Healthcare
The wait isn’t over, but it certainly is shorter at Fort Macleod’s Health Centre. The facility provides 24-hour emergency services, lab and x-ray, renal dialysis, short-term care, two full service medical clinics, and regional support services. Long-term care is also available in the town, as are professional services and massage therapists.

The town’s latest bragging point is the addition of a brand new $9m semi-assisted living facility, the Pioneer Lodge. The 40,000sf building includes 30 studio-style rooms and 10 one-bedroom units, housing up to 50 residents.
